Training the Next Generation of Space Entrepreneurs
The commercial space sector is expanding rapidly, creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs, engineers and business leaders. Turning space technologies into viable ventures, however, requires a clear understanding of markets, business models, regulation and investment.
As part of a European Space Agency course on space commercialisation, Strascend CEO Laurent Vieira de Mello delivered specialised training to a selected cohort of 20 students in Bari, Italy.
The challenge
Space entrepreneurship sits at the intersection of advanced technology, long development cycles, complex regulation and significant capital requirements. Technical excellence alone is rarely enough to build a successful space business. Entrepreneurs must also identify a real market need, validate customer demand, secure funding, manage risk and develop a scalable commercial strategy.
The training was designed to help participants understand these challenges and approach space innovation from both a technical and business perspective.
The mission
Strascend developed and delivered an interactive training programme covering the key principles of space entrepreneurship and commercialisation. The sessions included:
- identifying market opportunities in the space sector
- translating technologies into viable products and services
- defining value propositions and sustainable business models
- assessing customer needs and market demand
- understanding funding and investment strategies
- analysing real-world space startup case studies
- exploring emerging technologies and industry trends
- discussing the operational and regulatory challenges faced by space ventures
The programme combined practical frameworks, industry experience and group discussions to encourage active participation and applied learning.

This engagement highlights Strascend's ability to translate complex industry knowledge into practical and accessible training. Our expertise combines space business and commercial strategy, entrepreneurship and venture development, market analysis and opportunity assessment, business model design and validation, programme facilitation and executive education, and first-hand experience scaling technology companies.
By connecting theory with real-world examples, the training gave participants a clearer understanding of what it takes to move from a promising space technology to a credible and investable business.
Supporting the growth of the space ecosystem
Developing the next generation of space entrepreneurs is essential to maintaining a dynamic, innovative and sustainable space economy. Through this ESA-led initiative, Strascend contributed to building the commercial and strategic capabilities required to transform new technologies into successful ventures.
The assignment also reflects our broader commitment to knowledge sharing, ecosystem development and the advancement of entrepreneurship within the global space industry.
